- : I have a GVP 3001 with the IDE Autoboot ROM. I had read from several
- : sources that the IDE controller has problems with many IDE drives and
- : will not work with IDE drives having more than 1000 cylinders.
-
- Before I finally got rid off my GVP 3001 (33MHz) I had Samsung ATA drive
- attached to it (1021 cylinders) which worked fine. The transfer speed
- was around 1.5Mb/sec. Then also I tested the 3001 with Seagate
- that had just a bit over 1024 (which is the magic limit that the
- gvpat.device can't handle) and I never got it prep the drive correctly.

-
- I had 3.1 (v40.68) roms, 2+8 memory and a SCSI card.It's hard to find
- correct sims for the board. I also had problems to do a softboot (c-a-a
- worked fine though). The machine just freezed. Approx 1/30 softboots
- worked and I think it had something to do with the IDE drive because
- with a lot slower Quantum IDE I didn't experience the same problem.
-
- Then the 3001 uses autoconfig memory area for 32bit memory. So you are
- out of luck if you want more than 2+8Mb. And even worse if you want to
- add a gfx-card (which also use the autoconfig memory are for their
- onboard memory). To my knowledge you can only use PicassoII or A2410
- which can/or use 64Kb window to manipulate their onboard memory.
-
- On the other hand the board did it's job (030/33MHz/mmu) well as long as
- I had it..
